Sarathkumar's party agitates against fuel price hike
Chennai, Jun 12: The fledgling All India Samathuva Makkal Katchi, headed by actor-politician R Sarathkumar, today staged a demonstration, protesting against the fuel price hike and rise in prices of essential commodities.
His partymen carried empty gas cylinders and shouted slogans against the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and the DMK Government in Tamil Nadu.
Accusing the Union and State Governments of failing to contain the price rise, Mr Sarathkumar said both the Governments should resign, if they could not protect the interests of the people.
His party would launch a series of agitations till the prices were brought down, he said and demanded that the DMK Government slash sales tax on petroleum products on the lines of the other states.
Members of the Latchiya DMK, led by another actor-politician Vijaya T Rajender, also launched an agitation protesting agianst the fuel price hike.
Mr Rajender said the fuel price hike had triggered rise in prices of commodities, especially vegetables and other essentials.
