Goel calls for policy for vendors

New Delhi, Jun 12 (UNI) BJP general seceretary Vijay Goel today called for a policy for 7 lakh vendors in the capital.

Only an official policy can save them from the harrassing policemen, he said.

Mr Goel reminded the Delhi government of a national vendor policy formulated by the NDA government in 2001. The policy can help the vendors live a meaningful life, he said. It can also bring an end to encroachment on roads and footpaths.

He regretted the UPA ignorance to the vendor policy and said the BJP had got a pilot project sanctioned for the vendors after a prolonged struggle with the DDA, he claimed. However, the project was allowed to gather dust so as to allow exploitation of the vendors by the DDA officers.
