Clashes between CPM and TMC leave one dead, six injure
Coochbehar, Jun 12 (UNI) Para-militatry forces were deployed today after bloody clashes between supporters of ruling CPI(M) and opposition Trinamool Congress left one dead and six injured at Toofangunj, about 30 km east of this town, bordering Assam.
District superintendent of police Anil Kumar said the body of graduate student Debobrata Pramanik (22) was recovered from CPI(M)'s Baraitola office of Nagkattigague. He was resident of Baraitola village under Nagkattiguj block.
The clashes occurred at 2030 hours (last night) between the rival supporters where weapons had been used at randum leaving one dead and six injured critically.
While four bullet wounded TMC supprters were admitted to local hospitals, two critically injured CPI(M) supporters were taken to another hospital.
Both the CPI(M) and TMC claimed that the deceased was belonged to their party supporter.
The body after a postmortem was handed over to victim's father Shaymal Pramanik for last rites.
TMC today called a 24-hour Tofangunge bandh to protest the killing of the youth disrupting life and affected traffic to neighbouring Assam as NH 33 was blocked by them.
TMC district secretary Rabindra Nath Ghosh claimed that firing had started from CPI(M) office on a party procession, which was denied by CPI(M) district leader Sunil Sarkar.
BSF and CRPF, soon after their deployment started patrolling at the troubled prone areas to instil confidence in the public.
Around 10,000 TMC supporters today defying section 144 Cr PC took out a procession against the crime and demanded arrest of the killer.
They also took out a rally last night after the clashes broke out and gheraoed the CPI(M) office there demanding arrest of CPI(M) local leaders.
The district administration after the clashes clamped prohibitory orders in the area.
