Orissa to lay 4000 km road under PMGSY
Bhubaneswar, Jun 11 (UNI) Orissa Rural Development Minister B B Harichandan today said 4000-km-long road would be laid to connect 1500 habitations during 2008-08 at a cost of Rs 1100 crore under the Prime Minister Gramya Sadak Yojana(PMGSY) Inaugurating a three-day seminar on Skill Development, Mr Harichandan said Orissa ranked fifth in the country in the implementation of the scheme.
The state had utilised Rs 2484.1 crore so far out of the total Rs 2651.48 crore, sanctioned by the Union government.
The Minister said henceforth all the works under the PMGSY would be awarded through e-tendering and the money would be transferred to the contractors through electronic transfer to maintain transparency.
The electronic money transfer system would be introduced in Cuttack and Khurda district in the first phase and later extended to other districts in phases.
Mr Harichandan directed the officials to blacklist the contractors, who were not completing their work and kept it pending for the past four years.
