AICC condemns police firing in Karnataka
Hyderabad, June 11 (UNI) All India Congress Committee(AICC) Secretary P Sudhakar Reddy today condemned the killing of a farmer in police firing in Karnataka yesterday.
In a statement here, he claimed that police had opened fire while the farmers were agitating ''peacefully'' for supply of fertilizers.
The newly-formed BJP Government in Karnataka had tried to curb the farmers stir with guns, he alleged.
He wanted the BJP and TDP leaders to realise that only when the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre and the TDP in the state were in power the maximum number of suicides by farmers had occurred.
They should refrain from making ''irrelevant'' remarks on the farming community in the state and give constructive suggestions for farmers' welfare.
Appreciating the UPA Government for coming out with Rs 72,000 crore loan waivers scheme benefitting over 12 lakh farmers to the tune of Rs 13,000 crore in the state, he thanked the state Government for coming out with an integrated action plan for the benefit of farmers.
