Police net 5 people during 'anti-quack' drive
Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu, June 10 (UNI) In an intensive drive against quacks, police arrested five people, including one hailing from Bengali from the district during the past two days.
Police sources today said based on large-scale complaints from the public about mushrooming of quacks in the district, investigation was stepped up in this regard.
The arrested included one Bodhi Kumar Roy (28) from West Bengal, who had not even completed his school education. Roy, who claims to have an MBBS degree, had been running a clinic in Rameswaram for the past seven years, the sources said.
Police had intensified the drive, following a complaint from a woman, who fell ill allegedly after being administered an injection by doctor couple Riyasudeen (33) and R Sharmila Begum (28) at Erwadi in the district on June eight. They claimed to have an MD degree and were running a medical centre under the banner 'Badusha Clinic.' They were later arrested as they did not have proper certificates to support their claim. Interrogations revealed that the couple, hailing from Devathanapatti in Theni district, had just passed plus two.
The drive was still on, the sources added.
