Lucknow, June 8 : Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today ordered a Magisterial inquiry into murder of constable Krishna Nand Rai who was allegedly killed by Minister of State for Fisheries Jamuna Nishad and his supporters on Saturday night.
Addressing a press conference in Lucknow, she said that State government will provide Rs 24 lakh to the family of the victim including fixed deposit of Rs ten lakh for his two daughters.
The government will also provide job to one member of the family.
Earlier in the day, Nishad resigned for his alleged involvement in the murder near a police station in Mahrajganj district.
The Kotwali police have registered a case against Nishad and 50 other unnamed people under section 302 for the murder of constable Krishna Nand Rai. Other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Arms Act also have been included, Deputy Inspector General, Gorakhpur Range, G L Meena said.
The supporters of the minister fired at the constable during an altercation with the policemen over a rape case. He was rushed to the hospital, where he died. An attempt to ransack the police station was also made.
While witnesses alleged that the constable was hit by a bullet fired from the minister's car, he said that he was not present near the police station.
Nishad said "I was never near the Kotwali last night. However, I had called up some officials and asked them to probe the rape case impartially."
He said someone from the mob that gathered there to protest the alleged shielding of a suspect in the rape of a minor girl from the Nishad community had opened fire.
