NGO demands removal of transhipper from Mandovi river mouth

Panaji, Jun 6 (UNI) A Goan NGO today demanded immediate removal of a transhipper, ''Andheri Nagri'', of Singapore anchored at the mouth of the River Mandovi in North Goa's Caranzalem before it endangered the ecology and affected livelihood of scores of fishermen.

Goenchea Ramponkarancho Ekvott's general secretary and former minister Mathanhy Saldanha and its president Agnelo Rodrigues told mediapersons that they had already written to the Chief Minister and the Tourism Minister, besides alerting the Captain of Ports in the city, on the likelihood of a second disaster in the offing.

They recalled how the grounded cargoship 'River Princess', which remained marooned at Condolim for the last six years awaiting its removal, had caused damage to the ecology and environment.

Both the ships belonged to the same owner, they added.
