Kanchi Seers' case postponed to July 14

Puducherry,Jun 6 (UNI) Principal District and Sessions Judge D Krishna Raja today posted the Sankararaman murder case, in which Kanchi Acharyas Jayendra Saraswathi and Vijayendra Saraswathi are the prime accused, to July 14 for further hearing.

When the case came up before the court, 19 of the 24 accused, including the Acharyas, failed to turn up and separate petitions citing the reasons for their absence were filed by their respective counsels.

The proceedings in the case could not be conducted here as the Supreme Court had granted a stay on a special leave petition (SLP) filed by the Defence on the appearance of the Tamil Nadu Special public prosecutor in the case in the Union Territory.

The trial in the apex court on the SLP had been completed and the judgement was reserved.
