Minister directs uninterrupted power supply during Car Festival

Puri, June 5 (UNI) Orissa Law Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan today directed power supply officials to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the annual Car festival on July four.

Mr Harichandan, who presided over a high level statutory meeting of statutory Rath Yatra coordination committee meeting here, expressed satisfaction over the progress of the preparations for the nine-day sojourn of the presiding deities of the Jagannath temple.

The meeting discussed the works relating to repairs of damaged roads, power supply, drinking water, illumination of the three-km grand road, car festival venue, provision of essential commodities, healthcare facilities, transport of pilgrims and traffic management, deployment of security and police, health and hygiene.

The progress in construction of the three chariots to carry Lord Jagannath, His elder brother Balabhadra and sister Devi Subhadra during their nine-day sojourn to Gundicha was also discussed.

The Minister directed the temple officials and the servitor for timely observance of daily rituals and ''nitees'' of the deities from today.

He appealed to the servitors to perform their service with dedication and in time.

The meeting felicitated 49 devotees, who had donated Phasi timber logs for the construction of the chariots at a time when the temple authority was facing serious crisis to get seasoned Phasi timber for construction of the chariots.
