University Campuses approved for Kargil and Kupwara in J
Srinagar, June 3 (UNI) The Kashmir University Council (KUC) has approved the establishment of two additional campuses of the university in two border district of Kargil in Ladakh region and Kupwara in the valley.
The decision of constructing these campuses was taken in a meeting of the KUC chaired by the Governor, Lt General (Retd) S K Sinha, who is also the Chancellor of the University, an official spokesman said today.
The Chief Minister and the Pro-Chancellor of the University Ghulam Nabi Azad, Minister for Higher Education Gulchain Singh Charak; Vice Chancellor, University of Kashmir Prof (Dr) Riyaz Punjabi; Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu Prof Amitabh Mattoo and Vice Chancellor, SKUAST, Kashmir Prof Anwar Alam participated in the meeting.
With the two new campuses at Kargil and Kupwara, the twin universities of Kashmir and Jammu would have as many as eight additional campuses spread across the state.
In another important decision, the KUC approved setting up of the department of Food Science and Technology with introduction of five year integrated Masters and Doctoral programme in Food Science and Technology.
The University Council also approved the revival of Mushir-ul-Haq Chair as Mushir-ul-Haq Chair for Inter-Faith Studies. The Chair would be set up in the name of former Vice Chancellor and eminent Islamic scholar, who was assassinated by militants on April 10, 1990.
In yet another decision, the University Council approved the transfer of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Srinagar to the University of Kashmir. The Institute is currently run by the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. The Jammu University Council had already approved the transfer of the Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Jammu to the University of Jammu.
The KUC also approved the complete take over of the University Model School and making it as a lab school for its M Ed course.
Prof Punjabi informed that the executives of 15 national and international companies including Reliance, BPO Wipro Technologies, DELL, Barclays Bank, Bank of America, Bajaj Allianz, Prudential and Nokia Siemens Network were here for on-campus placement of the students of Kashmir University.
He added, that the companies were brought here by CT Group of Industries, who have assured him of placement of about 400 students in these companies.
