Rs 37 lakh looted from SBI's cash van, guard injured

Amritsar, Jun 3 (UNI) Four unidentified armed robbers today attacked security guard of the State Bank of India's van and drove away with the vehicle which had Rs 37 lakh inside it.

According to Border Range DIG Parampal, four car-borne youths armed with lethal weapons, intercepted the cash delivery van of SBI, when the van reached near the bank's Bhagtan Wala branch in the grain market here.

As the private guard Dayal Singh, along with another colleague and two SBI employees were taking out one of the two cash bags, the robbers shot at them, injuring Dayal Singh on the leg, and drove away with the van which still had another bag full of Rs 37 lakh.

They also snatched the gun of the guard before decamping with the booty.

Immediately after the incident, a red-alert was sounded in the city which was sealed.

Later, the police recovered the empty van from the outskirts of the city at Canal bridge Bohru.

The DIG claimed that vital clues had been found and the police was hopeful to nab the culprits soon.
