Medha Patkar urges slum dwellers to vote cautiously
Mumbai, Jun 2 (UNI) Social activist Medha Patkar today warned slum-dwellers against falling prey to the false promises of politicians and asked them to vote cautiously in next year's elections.
Leading a protest by slum dwellers, who have been demanding government land for building houses, at Azad Maidan in south Mumbai, Ms Patkar said, ''If the government is not giving land to slum dwellers for building houses, then the slum dwellers should be careful while voting for them as the elections are round the corner and the politicians will come up with false promises again.'' The government has been giving its land to private builders and developers at throwaway prices but is reluctant to give the same to the slum dwellers, she said.
Ms Patkar said the slum dwellers are being given a raw deal and it is only the politicians and the developers who are making money from the SRA scheme.
