Dilshad Garden-Shahdara Metro section to commence on June 4
New Delhi, June 2 (UNI) Beginning June 4, the Dilshad Garden-Shahdara section of the Delhi Metro, the first line under Phase II operations of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, will commence operations, thus connecting people from the border in east Delhi to the heart of the city.
The 3.1 km ride beyond Shahdara-Dilshad Garden section of the Delhi Metro will be inaugurated by Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy tomorrow. The section, which comprises three Metro stations - Mansarovar Park, Jhilmil Colony and Dilshad Garden, will be open to the public from June 4, DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dyal said.
Trial runs on the section began in the first week of May.
During the trial runs, the interaction of the Metro train with Physical infringement (civil structure) was checked to ensure that there was no physical blockage during the movement of the train on the track between Shahdara and Dilshad Garden.
The entire signaling system which is based upon Automatic Train Protection (ATP) was also tested during the trials. The signaling system has been provided by M/s Alstom of France.
Also monitored during the trials was the response of the train at different speeds, braking of the train and the interconnection with Operations Control Centre (OCC).
The behaviour of the track system (Contractor Kalindi Rail Nirman Engineers) and the Over Head Electrification (Contractor M/s ABB) was also checked repeatedly during the trials.
During each 24 hour cycle in the three weeks of trial running, trains ran for about 8 hours intensively everyday, and the remaining time was used for completion and rectification of various works.
Incidentally, the opening of the section comes seven months ahead of its scheduled commencement in December.
The Delhi Metro in its second phase will cover 125 km. After the Dilshad Garden line becomes operational on June 4, the next line to be commissioned will be the Vishwavidyalaya-Jehangirpuri link.
This line, with October 2009 as the target date for completion, will cover 6.36 km crossing Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Model Town, Azadpur, Adarsh Nagar and Jehangirpuri.
