Vaidya opposes Govt move to allot land for Jatropha farming
Ahmedabad, Jun 1 (UNI) Noted Gandhian and President of Gujarat Loksamiti, Chuni Vaidya today criticised the state government's decision to allocate land to a private firm for farming of jatropha.
In a statement issued here this evening, Mr Vaidya termed the move as 'totally unjustified'.
The Veteran Gandhian claimed that the BJP Government had given away 5,000 acres in 29 villages of Surendranagar and Patan districts to a private firm for farming of jatropha to utilise its seeds for production of bio-diesel.
Mr Vaidya opined that in fact the Government should distribute these lands to the landless farmers of those villages.
In view of the food crisis prevailing all over the world, it is wrong to use the land for Jatropha farming for bio-diesel, instead of using it for production of foodgrains, he claimed.
