R Sekar Chennai's new police Commissioner
Chennai, May 31: Senior IPS officer R Sekar today assumed office as the new Police Commissioner of the city.
He succeeded Mr G Nanchil Kumaran, who retired from service after superannuation.
Talking to reporters after taking charge, Mr Sekar said he would continue the good work done by his predecessors and criminal and extremist activities in the city would be kept under check.
All women police stations would be put on high alert to tackle the increasing crimes against women in the State, he said.
Appealing to the public to take the police into confidence and come out with their grievances and suggestions, he said visible policing, the hallmark of any metropolitan city, would be followed in Chennai also.
Mr Nanchil Kumaran became the first police official to retire as Chennai city Police Commissioner after attaining superannuation.
Later, Mr Sekar and Mr Nanchil Kumaran called on Chief Minister M Karunanidhi.
