K'taka CM distributes solatium to mishap victims

Hassan, May 31 (UNI) Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa today visited the hospital where the injured of an accident, which left 40 people dead and more than 50 injured near Arkalgud in the district on Thursday, were being treated.

The Chief Minister announced a solatium of Rs one lakh to the kin of the dead, Rs 50,000 to each of the 25 people who were seriously injured and Rs 20,000 for 14 other injured.

He later visited Basavanahalli Village from where the victims were proceeding to attend a marriage feast in the neighbouring village.

The accident occurred when the vehicle, carrying more than 100 persons of a marriage party, rolled down a 50-foot ditch when the driver tried to avoid coming into contact with a high-tension wire.
