AR personnel arrested on rape charges

Jorhat, May 31: Five jawans of Assam Rifles (AR) were arrested today for allegedly trying to kidnap five girls in Jorhat town.

The jawans allegedly tried to kidnap a group of five girls with the intention to rape, on their way back from a function at the heart of Jorhat town. However, the girls raised the alarm and managed to escape.

The jawans were later handed over to the police by the local people and a case of kidnap with intention to rape has been lodged against them by one of the girls.

The jawans in question have been identified as Rajmish Kumar, Debendra Singh, Amrit Kumar, Harpla Singh and Suresh Raita.
