Wanted criminal shot dead in police encounter

Azamgarh, May 30 (UNI) A wanted criminal, carrying a bounty of Rs 2500 on his head, was gunned down during a police encounter in Sidhai area here today, police said.

The deceased identified as Angad Sonkar was accused in 20 criminal cases like murder and loot.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Vijay Garg said, ''After getting information about the criminals, the police laid a trap near Bitholi bypass.'' The outlaws opened fire on the police party, but one of the criminals died in a retaliatory firing by police, the SP added.
