TN: Reservation for minorities in Group IV exams

Chennai, May 30: The Tamil Nadu Government today ordered to provide 3.5 per cent reservation each to Christian and Muslim minorities in the Group IV examinations, conducted to fill the vacancies for typists and stenographers.

The order was issued following a high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the Secretariat, to discuss the practical difficulties in implementing exclusive reservation for the minorities, an official release said here.

The State Government had promulgated an ordinance on September 15, 2007, providing 3.5 per cent reservation each to Christian and Muslim minorities in education and employment opportunities. Today's meeting was held after Mr Karunanidhi assured that the practical difficulties in implementing the exclusive reservation would be addressed.
