Girls outnumber boys in class X exams in T N
Chennai, May 30 (UNI) With marginal improvement in the overall pass percentage, girls once again outshone boys in the Tenth standard SSLC Public Examinations held in Tamil Nadu last month, the results of which were announced today.
Releasing the results, Director of Government Examinations Vasanthi Jeevanandam said the overall pass percentage marginally improved from 79.5 per cent last year to 80.9 per cent.
The girls secured a pass percentage of 83.9 (83 per cent last year) and boys registered a pass percentage of 77.8 per cent as against 76 per cent last year.
R Ram Ambikai of St Ignatius Girls Higher Secondaray School, Palayamkotti in Tirunelveli district emerged as the state topper with a total of 496 out of 500.
Four students -- Joseph Stalin M of St John's Higher Secondary School, Veeravanallur, Cheranmahadevi, Zakeen S of Sarahtucker Girls Higher Secondary School, Palayamottai, P Maruthapandian of Hans Roever Higher Secondary School, Perambalur and S Suvetha of St Raphaels Girls Higher Secondary School, Chennai -- with a total of 494 marks shared the second rank.
Eight students shared the third merit with a total of 493.
As many as 11,605 students scored centum in Mathematics, a quantum leap from the 2,512 last year.
In Science, 1,591 students scored centums, up from a mere 66 last year. Social Sciences also saw improved performance with 272 students scoring cent per cent marks, a huge improvement from the mere ten in 2007.
In the standard X, 92.23 per cent of the boys and 95 per cent of the girls cleared the examinations.
The overall pass percentage among the students who sat for the Anglo Indian School Leaving Certificate Examination improved to 97.4 per cent from 94.4 per cent last year with 96.3 per cent of the boys and 98.1 per cent of the girls clearing the examination.
Those scoring centum in Mathematics leapfrogged to 305 from 34 last year.
In the OSLC stream, the pass percentage jumped to 87.8 per cent from 79.3 per cent last year. As much as 84.7 per cent of the boys and 90.8 per cent of the girls clearing the examination.
