'NREGS victimised by corruption in UP'

Jaunpur, May 28: Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Ram Naresh Yadav today charged the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government in the state for not implementing the Centre's beneficial National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) effectively.

Addressing the media here, Mr Yadav said ''the UP government is mishandling the Centrally sponsored schemes and misutilising the funds provided by the Centre.'' Even NREGS has become ''a victim of the widespread corruption'' in the state, the Congress leader alleged.

''The Congress-ruled United Progressive Alliance (UPA) regime at the Centre is lending full assistance to the BSP government, which is not ready to give details of the funds provided by the former,'' Mr Yadav underlined.

He also denounced Ms Mayawati for poor law and order and existence of anarchy in the state.

Mr Yadav further condemned the Vasundhara Raje government in Rajasthan for the vociferous protests by the Gujjar community and sought her resignation.
