Marathi actress selected for 'Chitrabhushan' award

Kolhapur, May 28 (UNI) Veteran Marathi film actress Jayashree Gadkar has been selected for the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Chitrapat Mahamandal's (ABMCM) 'Chitrabhushan' award.

Addressing the media here today, ABMCM president Ajay Sarpotdar said the award is given every year to a film personality for his/her contribution to the field.

Gadkar was selected unanimously for the Chitrabhushan award. She started her career in 1954 as a side actress in late V Shantaram's classic 'Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baje'. Then, she essayed a lead role in Marathi film 'Gath Padali Thaka Thaka'. Since then, he film career took off and earned name and fame in the industry. She had acted in over 100 Marathi films, he informed.

He said the award carries a cash prize of Rs 35,000 and a citation. It will be presented to Gadkar at the hands of Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashok Chavan at a function to be held in Mumbai on June 30, he added.
