IIT Gujarat will start functioning from June
Gandhinagar, May 28 (UNI) The Nation's premier technology institution, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) will open its new centre in the State next month.
Speaking to mediapersons here today, Health Minister Jaynarayan Vyas said IIT Bombay, which set up its extension centre at Government Engineering College (GEC), Chandkheda, six months ago, will support the State education department in the entire process of setting up the full-fledged IIT here, including faculty recruitment.
The IIT will function from GEC Chandkheda, from where IIT Bombay currently conducts 12 short-term courses.
Mr Vyas said barring the hostel facility, the entire infrastructure needed for the Institute is in place. However, GEC has excellent housing facility, which will solve the problem of accommodation, he said.
The Minister said that IIT Gujarat will offer five year B.Tech degree courses in Mechanical, Chemical and Electrical engineering.
