Srinagar, May 27 (UNI) Three people committed suicide and six others made an attempt to end their lives in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.
Official sources said one Manzoor Ahmad Sofi consumed some poisonous substance in his Nambla house at Uri. However, he was shifted to a hospital after he fell unconscious but died in the hospital later.
Manzoor Ahmad Khan (19) also consumed poison in his Sonabrari house in the south Kashmir district of Anantnag. He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brougth dead.
According to an official spokesman, one Pargal, a resident of Ramgrah, consumed poison and died in GMC hospital at Jammu.
He said six others, including three women and two girls, attempted suicide by consuming poisonous substances in their respective houses. They were hospitalised.
The trend of committing suicide among the people in Kashmir, particularly women and youth, has registered an increase despite a fatwa by Muslim Ulema against it.
The Ulema declared it an un-Islamic act and against the teachings of holy Prophet.
