Orissa to cover ten lakh fish farmers under insurance scheme
Bhubaneswar, May 27 (UNI) As many as ten lakh fish farmers would be covered under accidental insurance scheme within the next three years, Fish and Animal Husbandry Minister Golak Naik said here today.
Mr Naik said persons in the age group of 18 to 70 engaged in the profession would be covered under the scheme in phases.
The kin of the insured would get Rs 50,000 in case of death and Rs 25,000 if partially affected by accident.
The premium of the insurance would be paid equally by the state and central government, the minister said.
Mr Naik said the decision was taken during a discussion with Fish Cooperative Federation Chairman N Ahmed Ansari at Delhi on May 23 last.
The Minister said a training centre to impart training about the latest technology in pisciculture to the fish farmers would be opened by the Fish Federation at Bhubaneswar.
Mr Naik also urged the fish federation to create infrastructure for the marketing arrange for the export of dry fish and packing of fish and fish products.
