Nitish kicks off smart card scheme in transport department
Patna, May 27 (UNI) Bihar Chief Mminister Nitish Kumar today launched the smart card driving license system in the transport department of the state.
After distributing smart cards to five drivers, Mr Kumar told newspersons here that the new system had been introduced utilising information and technologies. He said the drivers would be benefitted with the new driving license given to them in the form of smart card.
He said that from now on people would get their smart card licenses within a few hours of applying and the card will carry all informations essential for security of the person. The scheme had been introduced in the state capital under the first phase and other districts would soon follow.
The CM informed a new software ''Sarthi'' was installed for the smart card system and the transport department had also set up ''vahan'' software for smooth registration of the vehicles.
Mr Kumar said that information and technologies were being taken to the rural areas and the government was running Vasudha information centre in every panchayat from where the villagers can get information.
