Five children drown in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow, May 27: Five children were drowned in separate incidents in Muzaffarnagar and Unnav districts of Uttar Pradesh.

According to police, in Muzaffarnagar, three children drowned yesterday when they were trying to cross the Krishna river in Dakauri Jalalpur village.

Thinking the river had shallow water, the children stepped into it. However, the water had swollen following the unseasonal rainfalls in this month. Trio got trapped in the deep waters.

Body of one child was recovered, whereas Meerut PAC had been pressed into service to fish out the other two.

In Unnav, two children drowned while bathing in a pond in Asivan area.

The deceased were identified as Anshu and Anjali of Kadirpur village, police said.

Bodies had been fished out of the pond.
