17 applications received for setting up industries in SEZ

Thiruvananthapuram, May 27 (UNI) Kerala Industry Minister Elamaram Kareem today said that the Government had received 17 applications for allotting SEZs for setting up various industries in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, in connection with the second anniversary of the LDF Government in the state, he said of the total applications only eight numbers were meeting all the necessary requirements for allotting the SEZ. Majority of the applications were for setting up IT, electronics and bio-technology projects, he added.

Mr Kareem said the Government would forward the applications to the Centre for its clearance.

As per the norms for setting up of SEZ, about 70 per cent of the land should be utilised for industrial and allied purpose, he added.

Though eight firms had already acquired necessary land for the purpose, nine had not possessed land, claimng that they would purchase land once granted SEZ, he added.
