Gujjar agitation leaves tourists stranded in Taj city
Agra, May 25 (UNI) The Gujjar agitation in Rajasthan has left scores of tourists stranded in the 'city of Taj'.
Buses and trains plying in Agra-Jaipur route were cancelled following the violent agitation that has left over 36 dead so far.
About 100 buses enroute from Agra to Jaipur had been cancelled, whereas over 15 buses, which had carried passengers to Rajasthan were temporarily stationed there, roadways area assistant manager S K Singh said.
Railway passengers were posed with hardship as traffic remained stranded for several hours after agitators blocked rail route, besides uprooting the tracks at several points, PRO Northern railways Bhupendra Dillan said.
Seeing the furore Bandikui-Jaipur route had been completely closed.
''The railway department has suffered a major loss as about Rs 5,52,000 have been refunded in Mathura station only due to the ticket cancellation,'' Mr Dillan said.
According to reports, protesters have damaged railway track at Bandikui and Dibai station.
Police force had been deployed from Agra to control the situation.
Meanwhile, several trains had been diverted, besides cancelling Agra-Jaipur intercity, Jodhpur-Hawrah Siyalda Jaipur express have been cancelled.
