Govt to honour Arzi senanies in Gujarat

New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The Government has decided to honour the participants of the Arzi Hukumat Movement for their contribution towards India's independence and the consolidation of its territorial integrity.

Each Arzi Senani would be given a cash award of Rs one lakh each accompanied with a letter of appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the Government. In case of demise of the Arzi Senani, the surviving spouse and in case of demise of the surviving spouse also, the eldest unmarried daughter, if any, was to be given the cash award, an official release said.

A function is being organised at Junagadh in Gujarat tomorrow where Dr Shakeel Ahmad, the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs will give away the cash award and the letter of appreciation to the participants.

The participants of the Arzi Hukumat Movement of Junagarh had agitated in 1947 against the decision of the then Nawab of Junagarh to accede to Pakistan.

The patriotic fervour of the participants of this significant movement against Junagadh's accession to Pakistan reflects the sentiments, courage, heroism and lofty ideas of thousands and thousands of freedom fighters, the release added.
