Decision to absorb licensed porters in Rly Ministry challenged
New Delhi, May 25 (UNI) The decision of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to absorb licensed porters in his Ministry has been challenged in the Supreme Court.
Parcel Porters' Union has challenged the move of Mr Prasad as ''descriminatory'' saying it has left out Parcel porters from the benefits being provided to the licensed porters working at different railway stations across the country.
The apex court will here the petition on June 9.
Notably, the RJD supremo had made the announcement after the presentation of Railway budget for the year 2008-09 in Parliament.
The announcement was welcomed by thousands of porters who have been rendering great services to the psassengers. They will have economic security in old age if the scheme is implemented.
