TN CM announces solatium to Bhagavathar's wife
Chennai, May 23 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, himself a connoisseur of carnatic music, today announced an assistance of Rs one lakh to Rajammal, wife of late actor and singer M K Thyagaraja Bhagavathar.
An official release here said this followed an appeal made by Ms Rajammal to the Chief Minister, seeking financial help to meet her medical expenses.
The cheque was handed to her by the Chennai District Collector at her Choolaimedu residence.
It may be recalled that Mr Karunanidhi had announced an assistance of Rs 50,000 to her when he was the Chief Minister in 1999.
