Rs 3 cr heroin seized from Filipino woman at airport

Chennai, May 23 (UNI) The Air Customs has seized three kg of heroin worth Rs three crore in the International market and arrested a Malaysia-bound Filipino woman at the Anna International Airport here late last night, airport sources said today.

They said 28-year-old Beryl Reyano from Philippines had already loaded her suitcase in the Kuala Lumpur-bound Malaysian airlines and was about to board the flight.

Customs officials, on suspicion, subjected her to a thorough check and body scan. The officials later off-loaded her suitcase and found the heroin.

The narcotic substance was concealed in a special cavity in the beading of the suitcase. The officials seized the heroin and arrested her.

During interrogation, she said she had come to Mumbai from Phillippines two days ago.

After strengthening her drug-peddling contacts in Mumbai, she went to New Delhi where she procured the heroin and reached here last evening en route to Kuala Lumpur.

Beryl was the third woman and the second Filipino to be arrested for smuggling heroin in the last month.

The officials had arrested a Thailand woman bound for Bangkok and a Filipino woman bound for Malaysia and seized seven kg of heroin from them.
