Jaipur, May 23 (UNI) The Police today burst tear gas shells to disperse agitating Gujjars who blocked railway tracks near Dumariya railway station about 13 Km from Bayana in Bharatpur district under their Rail Roko agitation to press for ST status.

About 3000 Gujjars gathered along the railway line on the busy Delhi Mumbai rail route, on a call given by the Gujjar Reservation Action Committee to revive its agitation for the demand after a gap of over 7 months.

The police used tear gas to prevent the mob from blocking the railway tracks, Divisional Commissioner (Bharatpur) Niranjan Arya told UNI over telephone.

Meanwhile, the Mumbai bound Amritsar Mumbai Golden Temple Frontier Express and a Goods train passed through the route, Mr Arya said.

The committee activists and supporters earlier gathered at many places including Mundia (Karauli) and Dullupura (Bharatpur) this morning and marched to different places to sit on a dharna at the tracks.

The police have made tight security arrangements. Prohibitory orders under section 144 have been promulgated in Dausa, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur and Karuali districts of the state.

Twenty seven companies of the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) and some of Railway Protection Force (RPF) have been deployed in these Gujjar dominated districts.

About 35 activists had been rounded up as a precautionary measure.
