Debt waiver for farmers increased to Rs 71,680 cr

New Delhi, May 23: In a move to further appease the farmers, the Central Government has added about 20 per cent to its already announced debt waiver of Rs 60,000 crore in the Union Budget, bringing it to Rs 71,680 crore.

The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh today. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has already suggested enlarging the coverage of the scheme to include more farmers.
