'People will show the door to UPA in the next LS poll': BJP
New Delhi, May 22 (UNI) Mocking at the performance of the four-year UPA Government headed by Manmohan Singh, the BJP today said the country had seen a Prime Minister who is lameduck right from the very beginning and is likely to be shown the door after the next general elections.
Identifying bartering away national security for vote bank security, imperilling food and economic security of kisans , corrosion of democratic institutions and devaluation of office of Prime Minister and sanctifying corruption and criminalisation in governance as the key failures in the four-year tenure, the BJP said the weak UPA government is doomed to be shown the exit door by the people whenever the Lok Sabha polls were held.
Without taking names, BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told newspersons devaluation of the office of PM was at its worst since Independence reducing the post to a 'nominal PM' whereas the real authority is wielded by the occupant of 10 Janpath.
People had seen through the motive behind the 'drama of sacrifice' in May 2004 by the Congress President and she was now exercising more power than the PM without any accountablity to Parliament. The bureaucracy including those incharge of national security were taking instructions from 10 Janpath, he said.
He said normally a PM attained the 'lameduck PM' status in the last year of office but India had seen such a PM right from the beginning. "The Government headed by such a weak PM is doomed to be shown exit door in the polls", Mr Prasad said.
He said the four year UPA regime highlighted the betrayal of aam aadmi by every action of the government as the ministers and leaders of the UPA alliance partake their dinner at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 7 Race Course Road residence tonight, crores of Indian families hurt by the skyrocketing prices will be eating even less than their normal modest meal, Mr Prasad said.
Spiralling inflation had robbed the people of their paltry earnings imperilling the economic and food security. The UNICEF had apprehended a silent tsunami with 10 crore people around the globe especially from India to add to the starving millions caused by unbridled inflation. About 15 lakh Indian children were expected to join the list of malnutritioned.
During the last four years 22,000 farmers had committed suicides unable to repay their debts due to distress conditions pervading the agriculture scenario. Tragedy continus to strike the farmers in Maharashtra notwithstanding the economic package announced by the PM. The SEZ system had created a new set of zamindars, he alleged.
