New CJ For Madras HC, 9 Judges Named For Punjab, Rajasthan

New Delhi, Mar 21 (UNI) Orissa High Court Chief Justice Asok Kumar Ganguly has been transferred as Chief Justice of the Madras High Court and nine Judges appointed to the High Courts of Punjab and Haryana and Rajasthan, it was announced this evening.

An announcement by the Law and Justice Ministry said President Pratibha Patil, after consultation with Chief Justice of India K G Balakrishnan, has directed Justice Ganguly to assume charge as Madras High Court Chief Justice within a week-- by May 27.

Another announcement named six Additional Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court who have been appointed Judges of the court.

They are: Justices Laxmi Narain Mittal, Nawab Singh, Mohinder Pal, Harbans Lal, Sham Sunder and Karam Chand Puri in that order of seniority.

Also announced was the appointment of Rajasthan High Court Additional Judges Chatra Ram Jat, Gauri Shankar Sarraf and Mohammad Rafiq as Judges of the court in that order of seniority.
