Mollah bewares Raje govt against harassment of Bengali Muslims
Jaipur, May 21 (UNI) Senior Communist leader and Lok Sabha member Hannan Mollah has urged Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje to ensure that no Bengali-speaking Indian citizen was harassed during the statewide crackdown being undertaken by her government to identify illegal Bangladeshi immigrants.
In a letter written to Ms Raje, Mr Mollah, who is the Chairman of Lok Sabha Committee on Papers Laid on Table, said it was the duty of the government to identify and deport foreigners living illegally in the country, after following proper judicial process.
However, in the process Bengali speaking Indians should not be harassed or harmed, he said.
The Communist leader said this was a general experience that Bengali speaking Indians, particularly Bengali Muslims, were harassed during such actions and process in different parts of the country.
"Therefore, I would request you to be extremely cautious on this matter in the national interest and hope that administration will not be allowed to take any step on communal or linguistic consideration", Mr Mollah said.
