New Delhi, May 21: For the third day in succession, Delhiites today woke up to heavy rains with the overnight showers cooling down the Capital city while also throwing life out of gear in several areas. The rains, accompanied by strong thundershowers, brought down the minimum temperature to 20.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees below normal. A total of 36.9 mm of rainfall was recorded till 0830 hrs alone.

The rains, while bringing down the mercury, also threw life out of gear in the city, causing huge traffic jams in several areas, especially on busy intersections like Ghazipur crossing in East Delhi, ITO flyover, Nizamuddin flyover and Azadpur crossing. The rainy spell could continue for the next few days with wetahermen forecasting a generally cloudy sky with rain and thundershowers in many areas, some of them accompanied by thundersqualls. Delhi has been witnessing a rainy spell since the last weekend with the medium to heavy rains hitting the city for the last few days. It has brought down the mercury and providing the much needed respite to Delhiites from the scorching summer heat.
