AP: CPI-M ready for probe against its MLA's assets

Hyderabad May 20: Communist Party of India (Marxist) Andhra Pradesh Secretary B V Raghavulu today said his party was ready for any probe by the Government into the assets of its MLA T Veerabhadram.

Participating in a meet-the-press programme organised by the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) here, he dismissed as ''bogus'' and a ''Congress conspiracy to tarnish the image of its legislator'' the charge that Mr Veerabhadram had amassed ill-gotten wealth worth Rs 1 crore.

''We are ready to directly deposit into the bank account any such amount if anyone can prove the charge,'' he challenged.

The allegation was levelled by the Congress only to divert the people's attention from the series of corruption charges made by his party against the ruling Congressmen, he contended.

Stating that his party was for probity in public life, he recalled that CPI(M) had readily agreed to any inquiry into the assets of sitting legislators when the issue came up during the Budget session of the State Assembly.
