Tallapaka to be developed as spiritual centre: TTD Chairman
Rajampeta, Andhra Pradesh, May 19 (UNI) Tallapaka village, the birth place of saint-poet Annamacharya, would be developed as a spiritual centre by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), its Chairman B Karunakara Reddy said today.
Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 600th 'Annamayya Jayanthi' celebrations at the village in Kadapa district, Mr Reddy said the TTD had taken a decision to popularise his 'Keerthanas,' which were kept under dark for years, across the world.
'Annamayya Utsavams,' on the lines of 'Thyagaraja Utsavams' in Thiruvayur in Tamil Nadu, would be conducted in Tallapaka, he said.
A 108-feet statue of the saint-poet would be unveiled by Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy here on May 22. A temple and meditation hall would also be built near the statue, Mr Reddy added.
Security was tightened at the programme venue in view of the recent Jaipur blasts.
