'Unbridled prices a worst blow to common man' : BJP

New Delhi, May 16 (UNI) Stating that 7.83% price rise witnessed during last week as the worst blow on the common man, the BJP today said that the various policy announcements of the UPA government notwithstanding, the situation has gone out of hand with no signs of improvement.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said that the unbriddled prices also exposed hollowness of the claims of Congress led UPA government and People have been paying heavy price for the follies of the government for last 3 years. The Government has thrown up its hands in checking the food grain prices leaving people to fend for themselves. It has also failed to adopt the policy of revenue neutralisation and monitor the price movements leading to the present situation, he said.

"The BJP demands that government should immediately supply enough quantity of rice, wheat, edible oil, pulses and sugar to all families at subsidised rate through Public Distribution System (PDS) as a temporary measure,'' he said.

He felt that slashing import duties will not bring in goods automatically and asked the government to work both on short and long term measures to steer the economy of the crisis. "If the government does not act swiftly, anger of people will burst like what we are witnessing in many economies", he said.

Mr Javadekar said the party would continue its agitation against price rise so as to build up pressure on the government. It was unfortunate that the government was indulging in blame game and giving lame and flimsy excuses to cover its failures, he said.
