Andaman fights against water-logging after heavy rains
Port Blair, May 16 (UNI) After experiencing heavy downpour since the past one week, Andaman and Nicobar Islands is now fighting against the water-logging menace.
The islands experienced torrential rainfall since May nine, that caused huge loss of property in Port Blair as well as in all the rural areas.
Lt Governor Bhopinder Singh in a meeting with Civil, Defence and Airport authorities has reviewed the situation and directed the concerned authorities to take immediate steps in this regard.
He has also directed the authorities to ensure safety and cleanliness in the airport.
''I have already ordered the Relief Commissioner and the District Authorities to make prompt assessment of the losses in the island and provide immediate relief to the victims,'' he informed.
More than 700 mm of incessant rainfall in less than 18 hours from May nine to ten caused severe water-logging in Port Blair and neighboring villages.
