Cash bonanza from CM for plus two toppers
Chennai, May 15 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today distributed cash awards to the state toppers in the plus two examinations results of which were announced last week.
Two first rank holders, R Dharani of 'Vidhya Vikas' in Namakkal district and M Rajesh of St Joseph in Chengalpattu, who scored 1,182 out of 1,200 were given a cash prize of Rs 15,000 each.
Similarly, two students, who came second, scoring 1,181 out of 1200 were given Rs 12,000 each and two others, who secured the third ranks, securing 1,180 out 1,200 marks were given Rs 10,000 each.
Besides the cash awards, the state government would bear the higher education expenses of these students and district toppers, benefitting nearly 100 students.
The students, after receiving the cash awards, said they considered this a privilege and profusely thanked the Chief Minsiter.
Dharani and A Ramya, who stood second in the state, had received cash awards from the Chief Minister after they secured the first ranks in the tenth standard examinations in 2006.
Higher Education Minister K Ponmudi, Minister for School Education Thangam Thennarasu were among others present on the award distribution ceremony.
