Centre should talk to HC for particiation in J
Srinagar, May 14 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Baig has urged the Union Government to be flexible and carry on talks with the Hurriyat Conference for their participation in the 2008 general assembly elections in the state.
Interacting with special envoy to Prime Minister and former Union Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran, Mr Baig said talks should be held with the Hurriyat, so that they too participate in the upcoming elections in the state.
''Since Jammu and Kashmir has a great importance in the sub-continent, the Union Government should take appropriate measures for human resource development of the area,' he maintained.
Mr Baig laid emphasis on infrastructural development of the border areas, leading to the improved living standard of the people living there, which would also boost tourism and create better relations with the neighbours.
Referring to the national policy of which tourism and border development are essential parameters, he stressed on the need to have alternate connections with Valley through Mughal and Simthan roads.
He said adequate funds ought to be provided, so that other alternative routes connecting Valley with rest of the country would also be explored.
