Centre announces major health-related assistance for NE

Imphal, May 14 (UNI) Health Minister Dr Anbumani Ramadoss has announced that the Union Health Ministry had decided to improve health facilities in the Northeastern region.

Official sources said today that Dr Ramadoss arrived here yesterday and interacted with state health officials.

He also visited the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, today to lay the foundation stone for a dental and nursing college at RIMS.

Dr Ramadoss said special focus would be given to eradicate HIV/AIDS, Cancer, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

Regional Cancer Centres would be opened in all the Northeastern states, he announced.

Primary Health Centres, Primary Sub-Health Centres and Community Health Centres would also be strengthened, he assured.

Since a high number of AIDS cases were registered in Manipur and Nagaland, more Anti Retro Viral Treatment (ART) centres would be set up in the region, Dr Ramadoss said.

Besides, information, education and communication programmes would be taken up while dealing with AIDS cases.
