Howrah, May 14 (UNI) At least one person was killed and another seriously injured in separate incidents of poll-related violence since the last 24 hours in Howrah district.
Bagnan police station Inspector In-charge Sukumar Nandi said here today that a person was killed at Chauani area last night when CPI(M) and Congress supporters clashed.
No one was arrested in this connection so far, Mr Nandi added.
In a separate incident, a person was seriously injured this morning when clashes occurred between CPI(M) and Congress supporters at the Sheikhpara area of Panchla block in this district.
Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Singh said the activists of both the parties hurled bombs, vandalised a few houses in the area and damaged vehicles.
Police arrested three persons in this connection so far, the SP said.
Barring a few stray incidents of violence, the Panchayat elections throughout Howrah district were being held peacefully so far, the SP added.
However, Congress leaders alleged that CPI(M) activists had captured four booths in Amta area.
