Industrial production lowest in six years, claims BJP

New Delhi, May 13 (UNI) Criticising the UPA Government's economic policy for the dismal economy of the country, the BJP today said industrial production at 3 per cent registered in March 2008 as compared to 14.4 per cent in the comparable month last year was the lowest in the past six years.

Similarly, the party said, the GDP growth at 8.13 per cent is the minimum in the past three years.

Talking to newspersons, BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy said the Economic Policy had totally failed and the Government had completely failed to arrest price rise. More over all fiscal interventions resorted to by the government to check inflation had proved counter productive.

While asking the government to honourably concede its failure on the economic front, he ridiculed Finance Minister P Chidambaram's claim that finance ministers of 67 countries had considered inflation as global phenomenon. "This baseless statement highlights nothing but the failure of the government's economic policy," he said.
