GGGCP demands complete ban on cow slaughter
Bhubaneswar, May 12 (UNI) Go Gita-Govinda Chetana Parishad(GGGCP), a voluntary organisation, today demanded a complete ban on cow slaughter and illegal transportation of cattle.
Parishad state president Naga Santha Krushan Das told newspersons here that more than 2,000 cows were being killed every day and around 100 trucks of cattle were illegally transported to other states.
Mr Das said illegal trading in beef was rampant in many areas and only a national law could check the cow slaughter and the illegal trading in cows, considered sacred by Hindus .
He said a state wide campaign against the cow slaughter and its illegal trade had already been launched by the Parishad on May 8, the Akshya Tritiya day, considered a holy day in the Hindu calendar.
He said the campaign would be intensified in the coming days and the message would be taken across the state to mobilise opinion against cow slaughter.
